CINEMA AND PSYCHOANALYSIS – Kieślowski: the truth of lack and loss – 13/02/2026
The Psychoanalytic Institut for Social Research – IPRS Ets, and the Elvio Fachinelli Advanced Studies in Psychoanalysis – ISAP, present a conference devoted to the relationship between cinema and psychoanalysis, with a focus on the work of Krzysztof Kieślowski.
The event will feature Peter Jansson, psychoanalyst and cultural theorist based in Gothenburg (Sweden) and head of the Academy for Psychoanalysis, with Sergio Benvenuto, psychoanalyst and writer, founder of the European Journal of Psychoanalysis and president of the Elvio Fachinelli Institute – ISAP, serving as discussant. Starting from Kieślowski’s cinema, the discussion will address key themes of contemporary subjectivity such as lack, loss, desire, and melancholy, through a dialogue between images, clinical experience, and theoretical reflection. The conference will be moderated by Raffaele Bracalenti, MD and psychotherapist, president of IPRS – Psychoanalytic Institut for Social Research Ets.
It will be possible to attend the free event either online (via zoom) or in person at the IPRS Ets in Rome.
